During 1996 and 1997 a couple of people I occasionally saw at a pub in Perth had their motorcycles stolen and during the same years my factory was broken into twice.
When their motorcycles were left un-attended either at their house or when out they both placed mild steel chain through the front wheel then locked it with a padlock.
My factory gates used the same, mild steel chain through both gates then locked with a padlock.
One motorcycle the mild steel chain was cut, the other the padlocks shackle was cut.
My first factory break-in the padlocks shackle was cut, the second time the mild steel chain was cut. Both times my factory was broken into money and power tools were stolen.
After my first factory break-in I bought more expensive padlock and used the same chain. After the second break-in I bought thicker 6mm diameter mild steel chain.
A couple of months later when I arrived at my factory I got out of my car, walked to the gates and saw someone had tried to break-in. He or she had cut half of the mild steel chain link.
I un-locked the gate and my factory door, went inside I saw my answering machine flashing. I listened to the message it was from the security guard saying he chased off two people attempting to break-in.
After this third time I thought there had to be a more secure method to stop thieves cutting chain or the padlocks shackle. I did some research, to my surprise there was no other security device that can replace a padlock and chain.
I met a guy named Keith at a trade show on an inventors stand in Perth, WA. I do not want to repeat the same history here (also known by other names) you can read about it by clicking the following link.

If you want to buy a chain and padlock you probably go to Bunnings, Mitre 10 or the local hardware shop. When inside you ask a sales person where they are he or she says the chain is in aisle 2 and the padlocks in aisle 3.
chain
You go to aisle 2 seeing all the different types of chain, most people buy 4mm or 6mm diameter mild steel chain, why its cheap. You pick up the supplied 12 inch bolt cutter to cut off the length of chain you need.
padlock
Next you go to aisle 3 there you see many padlocks, as per the chain most people buy a cheap padlock.
No matter what you want to secure with a chain and padlock eg. motorcycle, single gate to a post or double gates together 99% of thieves use one of three methods to break either.
You have purchased a length of mild steel chain and padlock but did you make the right decision.
think about what you have done
You cut the length of chain needed with the supplied 12 inch bolt cutter.
do you get it
You cut the mild steel chain in the hardware shop what is stopping a thief buying a 12 inch bolt cutter maybe from the same hardware shop for about five dollars then use it to cut the chain you just purchased breaking into your property or stealing your caravan, camper trailer, boat and trailer or any other item you secured with the chain and padlock you purchased.
We do not like to repeat ourselves but most people do not get it.
For about five dollars a thief can buy a 12 inch bolt cutter then use it to break into or steel anything secured with 4mm or 6mm diameter mild steel chain.
If the thief does not take a bolt cutter with them they will use a leverage or hammer attach, as seen above, to break mild steel chain or padlock.
Its simple do not buy mild steel chain.
you must buy high tensile chain
You maybe thinking, what is the difference between mild steel and high tensile chain, known by other names eg. bolt cutter proof chain.
I am not going to give you a science lesson, to keep it very simple all types of steel start by smelting iron ore in a blast furnace then adding a varying small percentage of carbon depending on the final product, eg. mild steel, stainless steel, high tensile or other types of steel.

why do they
mild steel chain is cheap to buy
but cheap means very low security
4mm or 6mm diameter mild steel chain is easy and quick to cut with a cheap 12 inch bolt cutter anyone can buy at Bunnings, Mitre 10 or their local hardware shop for about five dollars.

The perfect length of 10mm diameter bolt cutter proof chain required to achieve the above is 500mm.
We were asked countless times
can longer lengths of
10mm diameter bolt cutter proof chain be purchased
yes
we can supply any length of up to 5m long

Before we sold the first Motorcycle Security locking system in March 2004 we, the Australian manufacturer, gave a lot of thought to how long should we guarantee each.
We knew for a fact this Australian made locking system will last a life time eg. 25, 50 or 75 years maybe longer due to the superior materials used to manufacture them plus no welded parts, no bolts or screws used but we also knew we had to be realistic.
Decided to give all purchasers a 10 year manufacturer warranty.
we are proud to say
since our first sale in March 2004
until today September 10, 2024
we have never had a
